Components
RCU Administrative Console operates within the Microsoft Windows Explorer framework. It provides remote deployment and interrogation capabilities, storage of data, and management of the unattended installation of software packages.
Server (Data Store) stores information on workstations under management and packages that have been deployed
Activator Service is a service on each workstation under management.
Boot Loader performs the initial load of an Operating System
Reporting Tool provides for reports to be generated with filters including keywords, operating system, installed package, etc.
Benefits
Installs Programs the Way You Would Install Them Manually: RCU automates the installation, update, and disaster recovery process while following the developer’s intended method of installation (silent install).
Allows for Flexibility and Migration of Hardware: Few plants have identical hardware across all manufacturing, nor do they want to be “locked in” to older hardware as new equipment is needed. (Also, older hardware may no longer be available.)
Handles Both Silent and “Difference” Install Processes: Installs packages that support silent installation and those requiring a before and after snapshot approach.
Provides Query Reports: Enables the RCU administrator to report on the presence of software packages, hot fixes, etc. on each workstation.
RCU is a natural extension of an existing AutoSave Plant Floor Change Management strategy. |
